Sick of Houses Yet?

I apologize profusely for the home obsession. . .but since we have started seriously looking it has become all-consuming and I get really excited about some of the ones we see and like!

I like to show them off if for no other reason than that they are a market study and interesting to look at.

This one is a home that we like because of it's mountain setting and gorgeous yard.  At 2700 feet it has a decent amount of square footage, and the amount of outdoor living space is mind boggling.  It is situated in a high-end neighborhood but is much farther South than we would like.  However, the drive is very easy and even in snow would be a piece of cake - so we are considering it.

Outdoors, the home is on a private lot surrounded by aspen trees and forest.  There are two large decks and a patio for enjoying the yard and hosting guests.

Included on one of the decks is a built in hot-tub.  Score!

Inside the home has a sun room that is in desperate need of some new, more modern paint!

In this room I would keep it clean and neutral with a creamy, olive tan.  That pink, purple, and blue has got to go!  We would replace that light fixture with something very mountain-oriented, and the window shades would probably be removed.

The great room is my favorite part of this house!  It's bright, open, and begs to be updated.  Those window sconces will have to go, and I would want to paint that same creamy olive tan from the sun room on most of the walls in this room, but also accent one of the big walls with an olive green.  I think the dark colors will work great in this bright sunny room and will really make all that beautiful wood stand out!

This kitchen is also needing some modernization.  I would start by painting all of that awful yellow (I've had yellow rooms before that I loved, but this one is not one that I love!) a light pumpkin orange.  This would also go really well with the olive green in the great room!

The blue tile would be taken out and replaced with a darker granite

And someday we would replace those cabinets with light oak like in this kitchen

All of the white appliances in the kitchen are new.  We might sell them and use the money to replace them with stainless steel appliances to modernize the kitchen and also because my disdain for white appliances and cars is far-reaching!  I love the built-in solar window for growing herbs.

To open up the space, I would eliminate those overhead cabinets there: they are ugly and feel 'closed in'.

Upstairs is a beautiful loft overlooking the great room.  I would fill this with some cozy furniture, tons of pillows, and a bookshelf full of books.  What is with the purple?  In this room I would continue the use of the two olive greens, and might throw in some of the pumpkin butter on that lavender wall for spice!

In the master bedroom is this large 5-piece bath.  We would replace that light fixture, the faucets, and throw some paint on the walls surrounding the tub.  Maybe something soft and romantic like this earthy gray.

Downstairs is a large family room where we would have the television and may eventually built in a bar area for our wine and Dave's scotch.  The built-in bookshelves are amazing and would look stunning with a dark brown painted behind. . .lots of random books and a few empty shelves with nothing more than a photo frame or album.  The rest of the walls would stay their current color to keep it bright and open.

In any case, this one is a bit out of our price range but it's been on the market for a while and we'd like to try talking them down considering how 'dated' the interior is.  That said, I will post an update once I know more about this property - it's one to look at and I just love imagining what we could do to make it really gorgeous and mountain-contemporary!
